Our first stop is the
Labrador Interpretation Centre, your crash course on everything Labrador. Learn about the lives of the early settlers in North West River, and see the exhibits that follow. Listen to these exhibits in English or the native languages (Inuktitut and Innu-aimun). That’s not all, as you can check out the art gallery and small theater in the museum, each showcasing yet another historical feature from the Indigenous people that came before them.
Once you finish your tour, head to the next museum on our list, the Labrador Heritage Museum. This historic trading post was central to North West River when it was established in 1743, and showcases the history of the town within its walls. See the artifacts from the fur trade days while you sip on some delightful tea from Merle’s Tea Room.
Do you want to see a view that’ll knock your socks off? If so, make the hike up to Sunday Hill. The highest point in North West River, the beautiful scenery overlooks Lake Melville and Grand Lake. It is a perfect spot for photos, picnics, or just soaking in the views. Nature truly is at its best in the Sunday Hill hike.
Believe it or not, but North West River has beaches! You can enjoy these during the warmer months of the year, where you can take a picnic, relax, or dip in the warm waters. With its calm, scenic setting, it is the ultimate spot for chilling out. Settle in with a cozy book, your beach towel, and maybe even a paddleboard if you’re feeling adventurous.
